Am Asphodeliengrund 29

BAU, Steirischer Herbst

Gelatin unveils «Am Asphodeliengrund 29», created for the entire basement of a former distillery. The exhibition is experienced alone, one visitor at a time. It begins with a ferry passage: you are rowed across a water-filled, cave-like crossing—a Styx of sorts. From there, you walk through the exhibition, becoming part of a performative installation.

And again we stand and wait. Waiting for the raft to carry us across. Waiting in this in-between cosmos, as the colors of temperature rise or flow low. Then we stand further back, in dreams that crawl like worms, like holes in time. Our waiting is empty—unsuspecting nothingness, self-dissolving, free of expectation. Raft of expectation.

Will the exhibition happen now, or unfold more like a performance? Are there other plans for us—or for someone else—or no space at all? Do we act now, or later? If we participate, it will be received well; perhaps one day we’ll be allowed to live at Asphodeliengrund 29. Then we could wait to move in, promised something, dumbly happy that our waiting gained meaning.

SHIT IN THE FACE OF REAL ESTATE CROOKS, reads a facade in 1060 Vienna. Yes—and in all those who insult us with their promises.
